Protesting Roles & Involvement
Get Dressed:
The Handmaid Army needs more than just those in uniform; we need a coordinated front of activists to sustain our resistance. Choose the role that best fits your strengths:
- Cloak-Bearer (Frontline Activist): The visible face of our movement. Cloak-Bearers commit to attending protests, vigils, and legislative sessions in full Handmaid regalia to provide a powerful, silent, and unified visual of resistance.
- Signal Corps (Communications & Outreach): Our digital frontline. These volunteers manage our social media presence, draft press releases, and ensure our message reaches the public and the media with clarity and impact.
- Guardian of the Peace (Safety & Marshaling): Responsible for the physical safety of our participants. This team should be trained in de-escalation to ensure that our non-violent protests remain secure and organized.
Uniform Resources
The Red Cloaks and White Wings are more than just a uniform; they are a visual statement of unity and resistance. Consistency in color and design is crucial to our movement's identity.
Sourcing Your Uniform:
You can find many online retailers that sell 'Handmaid' sets, such as HalloweenCostumes.com or shops on Etsy, Amazon and Walmart.
Sewing patterns to be made available on this site in the very near future.
Uniform Standards
The Red Cloak:
Color: Must be a solid, vibrant "menstrual red". Avoid patterned fabrics or variations like the darker pink hues.
Length: The cloak should be floor-length or ankle-length to maintain a modest, billowy silhouette.
Style: A hooded, half-circle or full-circle design with a simple clasp or tie at the neck.
Fabric: Polyester poplin, gabardine, or fleece are recommended for their weight and professional appearance.
The White Bonnet (Wings):
Color: Solid, stark white.
Design: A traditional wide-brimmed bonnet that partially obscures the face, featuring a stiffened brim to maintain its "winged" shape.
Fit: Should be secured with an elastic band or ribbon ties at the nape of the neck.
Base Clothing & Footwear:
Under-Layers: We recommend wearing a red dress or a simple red gown beneath the cloak. If a dress is unavailable, wear dark, neutral clothing (black or red) so as not to distract from the uniform.
Footwear: Plain, dark shoes, sneakers or boots. No open-toed shoes or sandals.
Face Coverings: Optional red masks may be worn to enhance anonymity and maintain the visual theme.
Guardians (Support Roles):
Members acting as Guardians or support/communications staff should wear all-black attire. This allows them to remain distinct from the Handmaids while still presenting a unified, professional front.
